WELCOME MESSAGE - SVS HEADTEACHER
Mr. Mark Wootton, Headteacher of Sara Village School, brings over 23 years experience in educational leadership, a thorough working knowledge of the National Curriculum of England and an accomplished background as both a teacher and skilled musician. Mr. Wootton previously served as the Head Teacher for ISG Jubail, overseeing the prior British and American curriculum schools and their transition to an International Primary Curriculum (IPC) system.
The second year at Sara Village School is going to be different in many ways from our inaugural year. There will be much less that is new or done for the first time, but that does not mean therefore that everything will be the same.
We have a ‘new’ dining hall and a ‘new’ Art & Design Technology room – but in fact we switched the two out with each other! We have some new faces taking their place amongst our more familiar ones. Most of these new faces have joined us in the Reception Class, but we have also had some new arrivals who have scattered themselves about amongst our older classes. We also have our first set of alumni, made up mostly of pupils who left our Year 6 back in June. Many of these children are still living on the compound and attending other ISG secondary schools locally. I intend to keep them in touch with the school through events that they can contribute to or join in with as the year progresses.
There will be much from our first year that we want to keep exactly the same because last year was really a very good year for us as a brand new school. Our motto – “where learning is great fun” has been incorporated into a school song and we will sing it proudly whenever we can. We also want to keep: the same spirit and enthusiasm; the same pride in our achievements and performances; the same respect and trust in each other and of course, we want to keep the same first day of the school year tradition - ice cream for everyone!
In its first year Sara Village School established itself as an important piece of the fabric of this BAE/MOD compound and I trust that we can build on this as we look for ways to contribution to the expatriate lifestyle of this community. By working with members of the parent group as well as with the wider community, a good level of interaction and cooperation was generated which I hope will continue. The SVS Support Group, which was set up early in the first school year, offered much to the school through the year, raising money sponsoring events and helping to bring the school and community together. I hope to see this group of people continue to work on behalf of the pupils of the school and continue to bring added benefits to our children.
We have been fortunate to retain almost all of our teaching and support staff into this second year which gives us the advantage of continuity. This group of people showed a high level of commitment to making the first year a success and I have no doubt that they will work towards the same result for this second year too.
So staff and children alike can look forward to another good year here at ISG - Sara Village School, where learning is great fun!
Mark Wootton
