April 2010: ISG and Dhahran High School in the News

ISG Excellence Supports the 35th Anniversary Edition of Arab News

Excellence in international education is more than the curriculum offered or language of instruction. At International Schools Group, our excellence is reflected in how we do what we do, in the quality of our faculty, academic and co-curricular programs, our commitment to learning, and the success of our students.

To support Arab News and share the success of our schools, staff and students, ISG placed a color advertisement in the 35th edition of Arab News on Tuesday, April 20th. The content of the ad highlighted ISG’s history of 48 years as one of the oldest and best established co-educational expatriate school organizations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

DHS Annual Art Show and Art Teacher Abeera Atique featured in Local Media

On April 12th, the Habitat for Humanity Club of ISG’s Dhahran High School raised SR26,000 for charity during its annual art show and fundraiser. Inaugurated by ISG Superintendent Norma Hudson and led by DHS Art Teacher Abeera Atique, the art exhibition was featured by visiting reporters from Arab News, the Saudi Gazette and Urdu News.

In an article entitled “Teacher helps students paint life’s lessons” published on April 23rd, Arab News Editor Molouk Ba-Isa focused on the commitment of Mrs. Atique who has worked tirelessly over nearly a decade to make this annual art show a success. The Arab News article was re-published with permission in the NESA Online Newsletter a few days later.

Mrs. Atique’s enthusiasm and passion for charitable work is contagious, as illustrated by the comments of DHS eleventh grader and fund-raising officer Ayesha Khan, who when interviewed by Arab News expressed that “Mrs. Abeera is extremely motivated and dedicated to her charity work. I have never seen someone so driven by the opportunity to serve … [She] has a passion for the arts and a passion for her students. This show tonight is due to her influence on all of us …. Someday I hope to have the same passion for something I believe in, and have the drive and ambition like she does.”

In a companion article on May 17th, “Art show raises funds for humanity,” Faisal Aboobacker Ponnani of the Saudi Gazette highlighted that “during the last nine years, DHS’s Habitat for Humanity Club has donated over SR300,000 for building materials for financially challenged people in various countries.” In his article, featured in the Expat Life segment of the Saudi Gazette, he provided a glimpse of the wide variety of artwork contributed by an estimated 150 students and an overview of the myriad of activities realized to maximize contributions.
